First edition of Malpighi's collected works, including his famed work on the anatomy of plants, the embryonic development of the chick and the anatomy of the silkworm, his being the first monograph on the silkworm. Illustrated with engraved frontispiece and 123 engraved plates including seven small supplementary plates. Minor dampstaining to bottom of some pages; manuscript ex-libris to title page; bookplate tipped in verso f.f.e.p. and remnants of bookplate to front pastedown; some scattered foxing and staining; some soiling to vellum; 2-inch closed tear to frontispiece.
