The piano was used in writing and rehearsing by nearly everyone who stayed in Ouray at Caribou Ranch. Including but not limited to Michael Jackson, Elton John, Frank Zappa, Stephen Stills, Dan Fogelberg, Peter Cetera and many more. Elton John recorded three albums at Caribou Ranch and this was the piano he wrote and rehearsed on for hits such as "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." When Elton was at Caribou Ranch working on Rock of the Westies, bassist Kenny Passarelli recalls sitting with him at the piano as he turned the words of legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin into songs.
