Gem Characteristics (graded in setting)
It is the opinion of the gemologist (Eblen) that the sapphire in this brooch has internal characteristics consistent with those observed in natural sapphire that has not been color/clarity enhanced with heat treatment. Furthermore, though no conclusive determination can be made, the stone exhibits certain specific internal characteristics (parallel planes of particulate rutile "silk" and an intensely saturated color) that may suggest a geographic origin of Kashmir.
The stones exhibit diagnostic "horsetail" inclusions.
The stones exhibit a minor degree of crazing which is confined to shallow depths.
