Engraved map of the Great Lakes region, image 405 x 523 mm (490 x 662 sheet) matted and framed. Engraved border. Coronelli's map is a reduction of Jean Baptiste Nolin's ca 1687 map of the region, with much of the nomenclature translated into Italian. The map incorporates information from the reports of La Salle and Hennepin, and names "R. de Chekagou" near present-day Chicago. See Burden II 701 ("examples of the map have been seen set within a further engraved ornamental baroque border"). RARE: according to online records, no copy of this edition has appeared on the market at auction.
