Publisher's tan linen-backed boards, printed spine labels, spare pair of spine labels tipped in (a few pale stains, a little rubbing and fraying at spine ends, labels lightly soiled and chipped). Provenance: J. Oldaere (signature, 2 June 1949).

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE, of one of the classics of exploration literature and a highly readable account, the title of which was suggested by its unacknowledged editor and the author's friend, George Bernard Shaw.
